Toxic Wasteland: Clean Up Your Body for a Clearer Mind
Toxins are
everywhere in the world today and invade your body on a regular basis. How does
this happen you ask? There are many ways your body contracts toxins: eating highly
processed foods, exposure to or ingesting heavy metals, chemicals, molds, drugs
and so much more.
Your body is
equipped with its own detoxifying system known as the liver, kidneys and colon.
The problem is that your body can’t keep up with the amounts of toxins entering
your system. This is why people get sick. When you don’t feel good you don’t
think clearly. You don't perform at your best. You become sluggish. And you can gain weight.
Helping out your
natural detoxification system is essential. Here are 10 things you can do to
create a better internal environment which will help you feel better and have
increase mental clarity.
Relax
Take the time to
relax daily by calming your body and mind. Use meditation, tai chi, yoga,
massage, an Epsom salts bath, or any other activity you find fully relaxing.
Stay Hydrated
Your body requires
water for all functions, especially flushing out toxins, so drink plenty of
filtered water. Shoot for at least 64 ounces per day and more if you
can.
Keep Your Bowels Moving
When your body
doesn’t properly eliminate toxins, the waste that is sitting in your intestines
is polluting your system. You should have one to two bowel movements per day.
Any less than this can mean you are constipated. You can talk to your doctor or
naturopath to find out how you can remedy the problem.
Go Organic
Chemicals,
pesticides, fertilizers, steroids, antibiotics and more used to grow food for
human consumption cause all kinds of problems for us. The gunk in all these
products are poisoning our bodies so incorporating more organic foods can help.
Look for organic fruits, vegetables and meats at your local farmers market,
organic farms or even at the grocery store. More and more stores are carrying
organic foods due to public demand.
Eat Detoxifying Foods
Foods that help
with detoxifying your body are brightly colored fruits and green vegetables.
Some great choices are lemons, beets, broccoli, kale, cucumbers, apples,
carrots, garlic and onions.
Exercise
You’ll want to get
some type of movement into your life daily. Go for a walk, play games outdoors,
run around with your kids, do Zumba with your friends. Any and all exercise
will help rid your body of harmful toxins so get out there and move it.
Sweat
Toxins are expelled
from your body through sweat so you’ll want to do something several times a
week that makes you REALLY sweat. Working out is the first thing that comes to
mind but you can also hit the steam room, sauna or opt for a hot bath.
Minimize Drugs
You never want to
stop taking a medication without consulting your doctor or naturopath but if
you can minimize the amount of medications you take you’ll be eliminating some
toxins from ever entering your body. This include all types of drugs – caffeine,
sleep aids, nicotine and alcohol to name a few.
Incorporate Superfoods
The superfoods
chlorella and spirulina are both known for helping remove heavy metals from
your body and cleanse your blood. Add them to a green smoothie for extra
benefit.
Use Natural Cleaners
Manmade cleaners include chemicals that can be
absorbed through your skin or inhaled into your lungs. This means that using
them increases your exposure to these unwanted toxins in your body. Buy natural
cleaners or better yet make your own. You can save money and get healthier.
