Top 8 Tips for Beating Brain Fog

Brain fog is like trying to think of something but you can’t quite grasp what it is. You know it’s something you DO know but just can’t quite get it to come to the surface. It can feel like your thought processes are all gummed up, slow thinking and hard to remember things. Doing normal tasks you’ve done many times in your life becomes frustrating, such as writing a check, adding up simple numbers or going into a room to get something but forgetting what it is you needed.

The good news is you can recover from brain fog. Here are a few things to get you back on track:

Drink More Water

Water is so important to your bodily functions. If your body is dehydrated that can cause some serious problems with your mental capacity and well as your physical wellbeing. Aim to drink at least a half-gallon (64 ounces) per day and more if you can.

Eat Real Food

Stay away from highly processed foods such as potato chips, pastries, soda, fast food and the like. Read labels. If there are lots of items on the food labels that you can’t pronounce it’s likely not something you want to be putting into your body.

Focus on whole organic foods as much as possible. These foods in their natural unadulterated state, such as fresh fruits and vegetables and meats that haven’t been injected with growth hormones and antibiotics. When you buy fresh food and cook it yourself you will be pleasantly surprised that this one little lifestyle tweak can help many areas of your life.

Take Supplements

Supplements are helpful for keeping you healthy. The Standard American Diet doesn’t include all the nutrients you need to fuel your body properly so taking supplements will help fill those inadequacies.

You can start with the B Vitamins, Vitamin D, Omega-3 Fatty Acids and Magnesium. There are lots of other recommended supplements but these will get you moving in the right direction.

Get Regular Exercise

Getting regular exercise is important to get your blood flowing to get nutrients and oxygen to your brain feeding it to work better for you. You don’t have to work out an hour a day to feel the benefits, either. Just a quick walk around the neighborhood can make all the difference in your mental clarity.

Control Stress

High levels of stress leads the body to increase production of a hormone called cortisol. When your body overproduces this hormone it can have detrimental effects on your body. Find productive ways to relax and de-stress, like regular massages, aromatherapy, meditation or talking with a friend.

Get Good Sleep

Sleep helps the body rejuvenate and if you don’t get enough your body will rebel. Strive for 8-9 hours per night but listen to your body - you may need more.

Detoxify Your Body

There are heavy metals everywhere, in the foods we eat, the chemicals we use and floating in the air. These heavy metals include mercury, copper, lead and aluminum just to name a few. Detoxing will help remove these from your body which in turn will help to reduce memory issues.

See your doctor

Sometimes brain fog is due to a medical condition you may not know you have, such as diabetes, or a thyroid or hormone condition.
Check in with your doctor if you suffer from brain fog and let him know your symptoms. He may want to do some blood tests to help find the root cause of the issue.
