A Peek Inside Your Psyche: How Psychology Can Derail Your Concentration
You're reading your newest book on nutrition and having a hard time concentrating. You saw an interview with a nutrition expert on TV but you can't remember what she said. You're talking to your trainer about your workout goals and lose your train of thought. Or maybe you are having a hard time staying focused on your weight loss goals.
You might be
surprised but the cause of all this can be linked to psychological issues.
Depression
Depression affects
different people in different ways. Some manifest symptoms of brain fog. It’s
difficult dealing with depression as it is but with the added concentration
problems it can be hard for people to even deal with life.
Depression can be
caused by many things some of which are problems at home, not feeling worthy,
harassment and even peer pressure. Depression is not something to try to deal
with on your own. You need to seek out professional help. Once you get the help
you need your mental functions should return to normal.
Insomnia
Our bodies require
sleep and insomnia can pose serious health issues. If you have trouble sleeping
you might want to try taking Vitamin D or a natural sleep aid, such as
Melatonin. If this doesn’t help consult your doctor.
Anxiety
Having anxiety
causes the sufferer a lot of mental anguish. It can be hard to go out in public
to exercise because being around a lot of people might bring on a panic attack. Sometimes
these episodes are very scary. They can vary in intensity from sometimes just
feeling nervous or all the way to feeling like you’re having a heart attack.
When you are focusing on your anxiety it takes away from your mental capacity
to think clearly.
Some opt to deal
with anxiety through medication while others choose to seek counseling. Either
way it’s best to face the problem rather than live with it.
Emotional conflict
Stress from an
emotional situation you’re dealing with can cause serious side effects not only
in your body but in your mind as well. For example, if you are going through
troubles in life such as a divorce, bankruptcy, loss of your job, trouble with
your spouse or kids, you may suffer from brain fog.
This type of stress
is hard to deal with because it’s usually very intense and hard to not think
about it all the time. The best thing you can do for yourself is to find
constructive ways to cope. Seek out a counselor or someone you trust to talk
with to get your feelings out so you can deal with them. Keeping it all bottled
up inside isn’t a healthy way to cope.
Trauma
Trauma can affect
your ability to concentrate and think clearly. Some examples of trauma can be a
serious car accident, a physical attack or losing a loved one. We all deal with
emotional trauma differently so if you suffer from brain fog evaluate your
life to see if you have suffered any trauma recently.
If you are going through any of these issues and
have problems with concentration and feeling like you just can’t think properly
seek help to resolve your feelings.
